John Herndon Mercer may very well be the best songwriter of standard songbook tunes.  Even the greatest songwriters tend to think of him in another league, as in: “Yeah, I’m a good writer, but I’m no Johnny Mercer”  His tunes have a richness and emotional complexity that is simply amazing. 

His long list of songs include Moon River, Autumn Leaves and One for my Baby. Charlene and I will look into his personal life, which was complicated, and perform some of his many great tunes.
